Magic of the underground is an abstract and fragmented story of one man. His life is balancing on the thin line between comedy and tragedy as he would describe it himself. As a gifted and attractive person, Steve always wanted to be a performer. He graduated from Barnum u0026 Bailey's Clown College but never worked in the circus. He still struggles and searches for his place in the rich show life in NYC even though he is in his 60s. Underground magic is a big metaphor for Steve's entire life. He enjoys performances and the attention but is surrounded by ugliness and the dirtiness of NYC MTA, which always reminds Steve of his unrealized dreams. Seeing him walking home late at night with a face of struggle and desperation, you can almost read his thoughts, but yet he won't give up. He will keep performing and improving himself because he believes that his magic can change not only his own life but also his father's life. Steve's relationship with his parents and his way of communication through magic with his father is one of the main leitmotivs in this movie. The mother's death left a huge wound in Steve's heart, which seems to never heal. Now having only one parent and being separated from him adds to the sadness in Steve's life. His belief in a healthy life style seems to be his answer to all the illnesses. This idea helps Steve deal with the guilt of his mother's death, from not finding the cure through healthy eating during her life. This story is full of gloom and joy. Through the fragments of the life of this one character, the viewer will see small and sometimes abstract pieces of his everyday routine. Brought together these pieces become a whole kaleidoscope of the magic journey of this nontrivial character.
