A comparison between two extreme realities, near to Europe, but excluded from it. Two frontier regions geographically distant, but united by a common condition: the constant facing up to a recent past which has forged the present, the inhabitants' never-ending quest for their own individual and collective identity. Kaliningrad, once Koenigsberg, the capital of Eastern Prussia, and nowadays a Russian exclave in the heart of Schengen, is a frontier in itself. The Tropoje district, in northern Albania, close to the frontier with Kosovo is one of the most remote corners of Europe. Theirs are stories of relations between men and women, regulated, like every aspect of daily life, by Kanun.
