This PSA focuses on sexual assault on college campuses. Interviews with college students, footage from college parties, and police ride-alongs show how students under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs can make dangerous decisions. Detective Juliano offers advice on how to stay safe with friends at night in public areas. The video also explores how college students are desensitized to rape. Meg Bossong from BARCC (Boston Area Rape Crisis Center) expresses her concern that often people view rape in a humorous light. TV shows like South Park, Family Guy, and 30 Rock play a huge role in this issue. Important facts are brought to light in Girl Walks Into A Bar... In most cases, a rape victim knows his or her assailant. In Boston, 43.1 (per 100 thousand) people are raped per year. Of that number, 75% know their assailant. The Purpose of Girl Walks Into a Bar... is to warn, inform and protect college students about behaviors, which often lead to sexual assault. This video will ideally be shown at college orientations and placed on college health clinic websites.
