A mysterious woman named Esperança arrives in the village of Ribeira das Flores during a violent storm, falling into the arms of Tiago Marques Flor. Esperança suffers from amnesia and forms a bond with Tiago, who is distrustful of her. Tiago, a solitary man with a troubled past, inherited a small plot of land from his parents, who were once a powerful family until they were blackmailed by the Vieira da Silva family. Francisca Vieira da Silva, who harbors resentment towards Tiago for rejecting her advances, opposes Esperança's presence and enlists her adoptive brother Miguel in her schemes.
