Monet's guardian angel, Charlie assures Monet in a dream that he will make the awful fighting between her parents stop. That night, after a terrible fight, Abbey wakes Monet in the middle of the night and they flee, hopping a bus to anywhere but there. At the first major stop, Abbey's purse is snatched and Charlie appears in the form of a homeless man to lead them to safety. Abbey mistrusts Charlie, despite Monet's insistence that Charlie was sent to help them and ends up at a mission. Monet becomes very ill and Abbey overhears the mission director discussing them with the police. Terrified, she runs from the mission, more lost than ever and finally accepts Charlie's help.
