Jimmy deacon, a lonely rancher accidentally kills his neighbor rummaging in his barn thinking him a thief. Jimmy then decides to hide the killing by burying his neighbor in the back of the barn under the dirt floor. As the neighbors and police come asking questions, Jimmy begins to hear a heartbeat that pounds in his head when he lies about his wrong doing. The ghost of his neighbor confronts him and ultimately drives him to admit his murderous deed.
